The production of nasal vowels and primary word stress by L1 Ukrainian speakers of European Portuguese as an L2 [raw experiments for the OSF preregistration]

The current section contains production tasks, eligibility, and post-task questionnaires for the OSF preregistration: "The production of nasal vowels and primary word stress by L1 Ukrainian speakers of European Portuguese as an L2".

The experiments were placed in order of sequence:

  1. Preliminary studies - FINAL: a pilot study on image selection for the main experiment. Approximate time completion: 20 minutes.
  2. Eligibility questionnaires are sociolinguistic eligibility questionnaires for European Portuguese and Ukrainian groups. Approximate time completion: 5 minutes.
  3. Production task (1A) is the pilot study of the main production task with European Portuguese and Ukrainian participants. Approximate time completion: 30 minutes.
  4. Production task (1A) - FINAL is the main production task (final experiment) for the European Portuguese and Ukrainian groups. Approximate time completion: 30 minutes.
  5. Eligibility survey (other L) is a survey that was created to recruit speakers of other languages. Approximate time completion: 5 minutes.
  6. Production (others) FINAL is the main production task (final experiment) for speakers of other languages. Approximate time completion: 30 minutes.

Production task (1A)

Pilot study with 10 participants:

6 European Portuguese (1 male, 5 female participants) and 4 Ukrainian (2 male, 2 female participants).

Gorilla only has data for 8 participants, as 2 were sampled separately, on the computer.

Task 1. Audiovisual repetition (isolated words).

Task 2. Extemporaneous narrative based on images.

The post-task questionnaire for the Ukrainian group can be found at the end of the experiment.

Main production task for Ukrainian and European Portuguese.

Participants: 59 subjects (36 Ukrainian and 23 European Portuguese).
