Effects of neighbors, onset cohorts, concreteness, and time on spoken word recognition

This Open Materials page gathers all of the materials used to the run the online experiments described in the journal article "Effects of neighbors, onset cohorts, concreteness, and time on spoken word recognition" (Magnuson et al., under review). We collected lexical and semantic decision data on approximately 1000 English nouns, allowing us to investigate conduct mixed-effect regressions with fundamental predictors (frequency, duration) as well as neighbor, cohort, and ‘nohort’ counts (nohorts are words that meet the definitions of both cohorts and neighbors), and concreteness ratings. To preview our results, we found robust effects of frequency, duration, neighbors, nohorts, and concreteness; surprisingly, non-neighbor cohorts had almost no impact.
