Description
Built with Task Builder 1
This questionnaire provides a detailed picture of the language experience of speakers of heritage languages (HL) and immersed bilinguals. It contains modules on basic demographics, visits to HL matrix country, proficiency in 5 potential languages in 4 modalities and new media (HL, societal language (SL), and 3 additional languages), frequency of use of the 5 languages in 4 modalities, objective size of the HL and SL interlocutor community in 5 different contexts, quality of input, historical use of HL and SL with self-defined periods, code-switching frequency, patterns, and attitudes, attitudes to HL, and formal education and literacy in HL and SL.
HOW TO USE: The spreadsheet tab of the questionnaire contains datasources in 4 languages: English, Bosnian, Turkish, and Norwegian (with Bosnian and Norwegian or Turkish and German as HL and SL, respectively). The first row represents the names of each textual zone in the task/questionnaire and it should not be changed in any way, as they connect the text in subsequent rows (the text that actually appears in the questionnaire) with the zones in which they should appear. To change the HL and SL labels in the questionnaire text (the second and subsequent rows), simply download the needed spreadsheet and replace the names. To create a new language version, the English datasource (or others) can be downloaded and the text (other than the 1st row) translated.
ANALYSIS: A script for turning the textual responses to numerical format and for calculating derived measures can be found in the OSF repository linked in the additional materials.
