Main Task Card game: Experiment 1A & 1B

Built with Task Builder 1

In each trial, during the 5 seconds participants have an option to reveal the card identity earlier by incurring some costs (points deducted). Regardless of whether they reveal the cards early, however, the outcomes (i.e., card identity and points earned) are revealed after 5 seconds. The levels of rewards (points associated with a certain card identity), costs (associated with revealing cards early), and probability of obtaining a certain card were varied: 50 and 100 reward points; 0, -10 and -20 cost points; 25%, 50% and 75% win probability. All participants receive 18 combinations of reward, cost, and win probability in a blocked design, 8 trials in each block. Importantly, prior to each block, participants are also asked to make a prediction of how frequently they would reveal cards early.

Main task: Experiment 1D & 1E

Built with Task Builder 1

Same as Experiment 1A & 1B except that participants can see outcomes only when they pay costs. The total earned points will be revealed at the end of each block, however.

Experiment 2. Testing the impact of the prediction on non-instrumental information seeking

Cost- 10, Reward - 100, Win probability - 50 in Experiment 1D. Two groups, one without making a prediction and the other with making a prediction.
