Description
Built with Game Builder (Prototype) (This tool is deprecated and not recommended for general use)
This is an adapted online version of the control NoDirector task of the Director task used in the article: Dumontheil I, Apperly I, Blakemore SJ. (2010) Online usage of theory of mind continues to develop in late adolescence,* Developmental Science , 13*(2):331-338. The task is free to use but please cite the original publication.
There are a number of differences with the original task, a key one being that the objects actually move.
The Director task (available here: https://app.gorilla.sc/openmaterials/106253) assesses theory of mind use and shows differences in accuracy over the course of development between adults and children and adolescents. The No Director task is a control task which allows controlling for general task demands and inhibitory control demands of the Director task that are not related to the social interaction/perspective taking component.
To be equivalent to the counterbalancing used in the Developmental Science 2010 paper, the No Director task is always completed after the Director task, and the six versions of the tests are counterbalanced across participants in this way: To be equivalent to the original paper, the counterbalancing would be something this:
Participant Director No Director #01 Test 1 Test 4 #02 Test 2 Test 5 #03 Test 3 Test 6 #04 Test 4 Test 1 #05 Test 5 Test 2 #06 Test 6 Test 3
