Mawes Language: Comparative Production on different Generation of Speakers

Mawes language, local language spoken by speakers in Mawes Dai and Mawes Wares, West Papua, Indonesia is considered one of the endangered language spoken by less then 500 speakers. It was discovered that speakers of Mawes language did not receive any exposures of the language, not until they reach latter ranges of age (commonly spoken by the elderly). The experiment used elicited production tasks using 8 video stimuli in accordance to daily activities that can be categorized based upon goals, routines, instruments, and actors. Using gpowernt application on a priori of t-test that testing the means of two independent groups, while having one tail, effect size of 0.8, 0.5 error probability, and 80% power, it was revealed that the number of participants needed to yield significant effect was 42 - grouped into two different range of ages (adults and elderly).
